Free FTP client software
Even though most of the web hosts provide FTP functionality in the admin interface of your webspace, you probably might want to use your own convenient desktop tool. An FTP client is a useful aid that allows you to access to the server from your PC. There are many free FTP clients you can use to interact with your web space, I’m going to introduce only few of them.
FileZilla
Though the name sounds like there is a relation to Mozilla, it’s not connected with it in any way. FileZilla was first released in 2001 with a GPL licence and is steadily developed by the community.
The main features of this tool are: multi-language support, drag and drop, directory comparison and synchronized directory browsing.
Cyberduck
Cyberduck is another free FTP-Client but with a cute yellow duck as icon. Who wouldn’t like to have a funny little duck on the desktop instead of a boring logo? Anyhow, it’s also licensed under GPL, originally developed for Mac OS X, but there’s a beta version available for Windows now. Well maybe the advantage is the Mac GUI – if you’d like to have that on Windows too.
